New Training

Up2You received an innovative grant from the WA National Disability Services to assist with the designing and delivery of complex therapeutic care training.

This unique project provided a customised training program for Aboriginal, CaLD and non-Aboriginal staff to improve their knowledge and skills assisting participants from Aboriginal background. The training modules included the most current therapeutic strategies based on current research and proven practice from around the world.

  • The key learning outcomes included the relationship between an adult’s complex trauma history and his or her behaviours and responses. (e.g. drug & alcohol use, learning disabilities, sexualised behaviours, psychotic episodes etc.) Staff gained additional skills in positive behaviour support strategies and utilising a ‘strengths approach’ when working with adults with complex needs.

Senior management have seen increased therapeutic outcomes with clients and the implementation on a new innovative developmental model assisting Indigenous healing for clients with complex needs. Many thanks to Karen Hulls a leading-edge trainer and facilitator in WA supported by Robert Eades and many Aboriginal advisers providing advice and direction.
